What We Believe
First Presbyterian is a family of faith centered on a belief in Jesus Christ. Grounded in that belief, we seek to follow Christ’s way in our world—loving God with heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving neighbor as self.
Like most families, we’re not all the same. We all have experienced God’s presence in different ways. Some of us grew up as Presbyterians (or Methodists, or Lutherans, or Catholics…) and have come to trust the church as an institution. Others might playfully consider themselves “spiritually hungry, but institutionally suspicious.” Together we seek to honor our traditions while we open ourselves to the new things God is doing in our midst. Through it all, we hope that our very lives bear witness to Christ—that our worship, our learning, our service, and our love all point to the all-encompassing love of God in Jesus Christ.
Below is our Vision and Mission Statement. It’s really a mouthful when you stop and think about it. No one here has got the whole thing memorized. We don’t wear it on T-shirts or anything like that. But, at the core of who we are as a family of faith, is a belief that it’s true. Here it is:
We are a community of Christ’s faithful witnesses seeking to live the
journey of God’s purpose.
- Unity with God is our goal.
- Jesus Christ’s life is our inspiration.
- The Holy Spirit is our guide.
- The Bible is our greatest resource.
- The church is our visible, sustaining Fellowship.
- The city of Racine and beyond is our opportunity to minister to all in need of God’s healing presence.
Together we seek to grow in our understanding of the true nature of God and the way of life taught by Jesus Christ. We desire to:
- Bear witness to God in the world.
- Represent God's healing presence in our community.
- Build caring connections both within our congregation and in the larger community.
- Inspire through worship, music, opportunities for learning and mission.
